Eating and drinking:
There’s a good selection of restaurants in and around Kingsbridge. We can let you in on some of our favourites. Our local pub is The Crabshell. It's a 10 minute walk away with scenic views of the Kingsbridge Estuary and a friendly atmosphere.
Shopping:
Kingsbridge has an excellent butcher, fishmonger and greengrocer (as well as two large supermarkets). There’s a farmers’ market on the quayside the first and third Saturday of every month. There's a good choice of independent boutiques and gift shops to browse. We particularly like Lazy Sundays, which sells beautiful gifts and cards they design and hand make.
Activities:
There are a number of Blue Flag beaches in South Devon including Blackpool Sands, Bigbury and South Sands in Salcombe. Walkers will be spoilt for choice, with some spectacular coastal walks on offer. The section of the South West Coast Path from Salcombe to Hope Cove being particularly beautiful. Kingsbridge Quay Leisure Centre has a 25m pool, a gym and several fitness classes. Harbour House in Kingsbridge has regular yoga and meditation classes, as well as a gallery and vegetarian cafe. There are also public tennis courts in Kingsbridge, and public golf courses not far away. If you're after more relaxing entertainment, there’s a very quaint cinema in Kingsbridge called The Reel that shows the latest releases.
Getting around:
If you’d rather use public transport, there are regular buses to Salcombe, Dartmouth (a very scenic route), Exeter and Plymouth from Kingsbridge bus station. The nearest train station is in Totnes (14 miles away). From May to the end of September a ferry runs from Kingsbridge quayside to Salcombe. Timings depend on the tide, which Kingsbridge Information Centre will have information on.
